How it works

Enter a set and this 1rm calculator estimates your max three ways. The example — 225 lb for 5 reps — gives 262.5 lb by Epley (weight × (1 + reps ÷ 30)), 253.1 lb by Brzycki and 264.3 lb by Lombardi; the 9.4-lb gap between the first two is normal.

The table turns that estimate into training loads: 90% is 236.3 lb, about 3 reps; 80% is 210 lb for roughly 8; 70% is 183.8 lb, a volume weight. Sets of 3–6 reps give the most reliable estimates.

How do I use my 1RM in a program?

Lift percentages of it: 210 lb (80%) for 5–8 reps, 236.3 lb (90%) for doubles and triples.

Is it safe to test a true one rep max?

Estimating from a 3–5 rep set gives a number within a few percent without a maximal attempt.
